The Beginners Guide to Meditation

It Doesn’t Have to be Hard.

Meditation… everyone says you should try it. You know it’s good for you but your mind is too busy to settle into meditation, right? What if you take all expectations you have about meditation off the table and try something simple?

Know that turning off your conscious mind is impossible. Some people are better at holding their thoughts at bay than others but not everyone is able to do that. Instead, find something to intently focus on. Some examples: reading, sewing, knitting, coloring, day dreaming, losing yourself in music, yoga, playing an instrument, drawing, writing. The goal is the relax and to give your mind a rest from all of the racing thoughts. Ease your thoughts by giving them something to do.

When you are lost in one of the exercises listed above, you can then introduce a thought to focus on… what will it take to get fit? What will my next career be? Should I stay or should I go? When you mind is in a more relaxed state, it is easier to get clarity and insight from your inner-knowing. Just allow the answers to flow into your your consciousness without allowing worry, fear, stress, and yeah-buts to creep in.

Meditation doesn’t have to be complicated - everyone can do it…Keep it simple and you will enjoy the benefits without sitting cross-legged and singing “om….”
